Shorewood Votes 70-30 in Favor of Barrett

Shorewood voters came out in droves, with 75 percent of registered voters casting a ballot in Tuesday's governor, and lt. governor, recall election.

Despite losing the statewide race, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett won Shorewood with nearly 70 percent of the vote over incumbent Republican Gov. Scott Walker in the governor’s recall election Tuesday.

According to unofficial results from Village Clerk Sherry Grant around 10:30 p.m., Barrett garnered 5,110 votes, or 69 percent, to Walker’s 2,240 votes, or roughly 30 percent.

Brookfield physician Hari Trivedi received 21 votes.

In the 2010 governor's race, Shorewood voted much the same way: 72 percent to 27 percent for Barrett.

Voter turnout on Tuesday was nearly 75 percent, according to Grant.

Meanwhile, it was the same story in the race for the lt. governor’s office pitting President of the Professional Fire Fighters of Wisconsin Mahlon Mitchell against Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch.

Mitchell grabbed 70 percent of the vote, or 5058 ballots cast in his favor, while the lt. governor received 29 percent or 2144 votes.

All results are unofficial until canvassed by Shorewood's village clerk.
