Shorewood Snapshot: Tuesday is Election Day; Miss Shorewood Pageant

— Tuesday is of course Election Day and there are several races on the ballot including a Republican presidential primary and Village Board general election.

Village officials meet Monday — In addition to discussing a water rate increase of 29 percent or $13 for the average water user, though they aren't scheduled to vote, the Village Board will go into closed session to discuss a contract the village’s assessor.

Officials have said they believe Associated Appraisal Consultants Inc., is responsible for an assessment error which valued Shorewood’s business district at $77 million instead of its true value of $77,000.

The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. on Monday at , 3930 N. Murray Ave.

Miss Shorewood — Male students will strut their stuff on the Shorewood High School auditorium stage Tuesday night at 7, when they put on a show in dresses and gowns.

The high school Student Council puts on the pageant to raise money for a local charity, which this year is the Wisconsin chapter of Greyhound Pets of America, which helps ex-racing greyhounds find adoptive homes.

— The Shorewood School District orchestra students will perform Wednesday in the high school auditorium, 1701 E. Capitol. The concert starts at 7 p.m.

Meet the Easter Bunny — Roughly 11,000 eggs will coat the hills of , 3565 N. Morris Blvd., on Saturday as the Shorewood Men’s Club Easter Egg Hunt gets under way at 9 a.m. The Easter Bunny will make an appearance during the egg hunt. The club is also offering a pancake breakfast following the egg hunt at 9:30 a.m. Visit the club’s website for more details.

Preps sports — The softball team will play a doubleheader on Monday with their first game starting at 4:15 against Saint Francis and are also scheduled to travel to Brown Deer for a 4:15 tip-off on Wednesday.

Shorewood's girls soccer team kicks off its season at home on Tuesday with a 6:30 p.m. match with Whitnall and an away game on Thursday against Greenfield.

The Shorewood High School girls and boys track team will compete in a meet on Saturday on the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater campus.

Home games are played at Shorewood High School, 1701 E. Capitol Dr.

However, even though I spend most of my work days sipping coffee and fraternizing with the locals at Alterra or Stone Creek, I felt it was time to make myself available in person on a regular basis.

So, from 5 to 7 p.m. every Thursday I will be holding "office hours" in one of the study rooms at the , 3920 N. Murray Ave. If the room is full we will definitely find a place to chat.
