Shorewood Snapshot: Shorewood Criterium; Atwater Beach Party

Here's a look at what's coming up this week in Shorewood. If we're missing something, please add it to the calendar.

— Competitive cycling is coming to the village Thursday when the Shorewood Criterium Cycling Classic will traverse the village, arousing the familiar sounds of applause and cowbells, clinking glasses and whirring tires. 

This will be the criterium’s ninth year, and its third year serving as the opening act for the Pro-Am Cycling Series known as the Tour of America’s Dairyland (ToAD).

The women's race will start at 5 p.m. and the men's race at 6:30 p.m., both an hour long. There will also be a race for children at 6 p.m.

Village Board Monday night — Village officials will discuss a block party in the 4500 block of North Oakland Avenue during Thursday's Criterium bicycle race. The owners of Three Lions Pub are organizing the party.

The Village Board will also go into closed session to discuss an agreement related to an assessment error by Shorewood's assessor, and talk about the assessor's contract.

The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. at , 3930 N. Murray Ave.

— Known for its reggae music, and blend of roots reggae and dancehall, King Solomon will kick off Shorewood's Summer Sounds concert series on Wednesday at , 3565 N. Morris Blvd.

For 10 consecutive Wednesday evenings, excluding the fourth of July, the series will include free performances from jazz to blues, Irish to country, and every musical style in-between.

The concerts begin at 6 p.m. Assorted food and beverages will be sold; no carry-in alcohol is allowed.

— Magician Rick Allen returns with his bag of awesome tricks 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The program is part of Shorewood Public Library's Terrific Tuesdays summer series.

Atwater Beach party — Celebrate the opening of and its new beach playground on Saturday from 2 to 10 p.m. Come to the beach for sand volleyball, local music, barbecue, drinks and a beach bonfire. Lifeguards will be on duty. 

The first 75 that stop by the Shorewood Waters booth will receive a beach bag and other goodies — one per family. All proceeds benefit the park, located at the intersection of East Capitol Drive and North Lake Drive.

Shorewood from the waters tour — Explore the Milwaukee River by canoe from Kletzch park to at 1 p.m. on Friday.
