Shorewood Snapshot: New School Chief Search Update; Waxwing Grand Opening

A look ahead at the week's local events and news.

School Board meeting Tuesday — School officials will be asked to approve the retirement request of a long-time district employee and the to takeover the office of superintendent of schools will provide an update.

The meeting starts at 7 p.m. in the Library, 1701 E. Capitol Dr.

Village committee meetings — The Shorewood Foundation meets at 4:30 p.m. and the Parks Commission holds session on 5:30 p.m., on Tuesday.

Both meetings are at , 3930 N. Murray Ave.

— High school and middle school choir students will combine for a concert at 2 p.m. on Thursday at , 4048 N. Bartlett Ave.

— , art consignment shop owner Stephanie Davies will host a grand opening party for The Waxwing at 6 p.m. Friday at 4415 N. Oakland Ave. The shop will feature over 50 local artists and in the future host community art workshops.

—Richard Walsh of DeVroomen Garden Products will hold a talk about summer flowering bulbs 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Saturday at the , 2107 E. Capitol Dr.

He’ll teach easy techniques behind successful planting and over-wintering. Bulb topics also include starting early indoor pots, creating cut flower gardens, container gardens using the thrill and spill method, the return of the bearded Iris and how to choose dwarf varieties for rock garden and urban landscapes.

— The book club is open to the public and meets in the , 3920 N. Murray Ave. The club meets Thursday at 5 a.m. Go here to view the book selections.

However, even though I spend most of my work days sipping coffee and fraternizing with the locals at Alterra or Stone Creek, I felt it was time to make myself available in person on a regular basis.

So, from 5 to 7 p.m. every Thursday I will be holding "office hours" in one of the study rooms at the , 3920 N. Murray Ave. If the room is full we will definitely find a place to chat.
