Shorewood Snapshot: School Board; Blood Drive; Best-selling Author Visits Library

School Board — Discussion centering around district employee retirement benefits other than pensions, a 2 percent base wage increase for secretaries and consideration of a 2013-2014 school calendar are among items on the Shorewood School Board agenda Tuesday night. Find the full agenda here

The meeting starts at 7 p.m. in the Shorewood High School Library, 1701 E. Capitol Dr.

Men's Club blood drive — This year's Shorewood Men's Club community blood drive is scheduled for Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Shorewood Village Center, 3920 N. Murray Ave.

Contact Jeff Hanewall at 964-9719 or shorewoodmensclub@wi.rr.com for an appointment, but walk-ins are also welcome. The drive is conducted by the Blood Center of Wisconsin.

Best-selling author visits Shorewood Library — Author Lisa McMann will be at the Shorewood Public Library, 3920 N. Murray Ave., Monday night.  

McMann is the New York Times best-selling teen's book author behind the popular Unwanted series and Wake trilogy. 

She will introduce her newest book Infinity Ring 3: The Trap Door, chat with fans and sign books. There will also be a drawing to win autographed books and books available for purchase. The event is co-sponsored with Boswell Book Company.

Free tax help for seniors — The service is currently being offered at the Shorewood Senior Resource Center until April 12.

Volunteers from the American Association of Retired People (AARP) will be on hand from 1 to 5 p.m. Appointments are required. 

Volunteers cannot help with rental properties or recent divorces. 

Phone the Senior Resource Center at 414-847-2727 to schedule an appointment or for more information.

Senior Fat Tuesday celebration — The Senior Resource Center will have Pączki (filled donuts) and coffee on Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Village Center, 3920 N. Murray Ave.

Residents are encouraged to stop by and enjoy a traditional Fat Tuesday treat while supplies last. 

Coffee and play — Join the Family Club for coffee and play on Tuesday and Friday mornings at 9:30 at North Shore Presbyterian Church, 4048 N. Bartlett Ave. 

It is a friendly meet up where adults chat and little ones play. The group also offers music classes, yoga, and host plenty of family-friendly events throughout the year. 

Village meetings — The Village Board and Community Development Authority will meet Monday night to discuss reprojection of project plans for the village's special taxing districts in its business district. That meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. in Village Hall, 3930 N. Murray Ave.
