Shorewood Snapshot: Hard Hats for Kids; Anaba Tea Room Art Reception; Preps Sports

Governmental meeting — Shorewood's Village Board will convene Tuesday night for a regular meeting. Find the agenda here. The meeting starts at 7:30

— Milwaukee developer Mandel Group is giving children an opportunity to get their hands dirty on a real construction site, during its "Hard Hats for Kids" event on Saturday.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the site of at 4027 N. Oakland Ave., children can grab a hard hat and have their photo taken in a large excavator/backhoe.
There will also be private tours of the site and a chance to speak with some of the workers. Additional prizes include children’s books geared at explaining construction and sweets and goodies inside .
— The local tea room will host this year's League of Milwaukee Artists League Fall Members Show: "Painting...Music to My Soul."
A reception will be held Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the , 2107 E. Capitol Dr. Bayview guitarist John Stano will provide live music.
Inspired by a song title or a piece of music, the subject matter and media of these two-dimensional works is widely varied, as is the artist's interpretation of their chosen tune. The show will be judged by well-known Wisconsin artist Frank Hoeffler, and awards will be given to some of the best works from this established group of artists.
Preps sports — The Messwood football team will try to improve to 3-0 on the season when they travel to Saint John's NW Military Academy for a Midwest Classic conference match on Saturday at 2 p.m.
Shorewood's girls tennis team will host a 4 p.m. match against St. Francis, and the girl's volleyball team at 6:30 p.m. match against Greenfield on Tuesday.
The girls swimming team will participate in a meet 6 p.m. at Brown Deer High School, and the boys soccer team will host Whitnall 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Then on Thursday, the girl's tennis team will take on Greenfield for an away game at 4 p.m. and the girls volleyball team will host Cudahy at 6:30 p.m.
All home games are played at , 1701 E. Capitol Dr.
— Summer's ending, it's time to restart the year.
If it's back to school time for you or your family, or even if you're just ready for a re-charge, Kingo Lutheran Church and community members will hold a special celebration.
The church will hold worship at 10 a.m., followed by a picnic with a street blessing of the newly reconstructed East Olive Street and games around 11:15 a.m.
