Shorewood Snapshot: First Village Tree Lighting Friday

The first full week of December opens with temperatures approaching 60 and no snow in the immediate forecast. But there are plenty of holiday events on tap nevertheless, along with the resumption of official business. Here are five things you should know in Shorewood this week:

Light the tree: Shorewood’s first tree lighting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday at The Cornerstone Patio, between North Star Bistro and Thief Wine. Shorewood High School carolers and McMenimen Irish Dancers are among the entertainment.

Holiday etiquette: Tired of your kids eating with their hands, singing “Jingle Bells” in burps and slouching under the table? Sign them up for a free Holiday Etiquette session at North Star Bistro at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Space is limited to 15 kids at this free session.

Village Board meeting: There is a relatively light agenda for the Village Board for its meeting at 7:30 p.m. Monday. One item being discussed is a possible partnership with the school district for public parking at Atwater School.

Public meeting on boiler replacement: Learn more about the school district’s plans for replacing boilers at Shorewood High School and Atwater School in a community conversation at 7 p.m. Monday at the high school library.

High school basketball: It’s a sparse week for high school sports at Shorewood, but the Greyhound boys basketball team does host Whitnall on Friday at 7:30 p.m. in a Woodland Conference game. The Greyhounds have won three of their first four games to open the season, according to WisSports.net.
