Shorewood Snapshot: Election Day; Men's Club Chicken BBQ

Election Day — Tuesday is, of course, Election Day, when voters will head to the polls and cast ballots in Wisconsin’s historic gubernatorial recall election between Republican Gov. Scott Walker and Democratic Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett.

— Join your neighbors for music, food and ice cream at the 42nd annual Shorewood Men’s Club Chicken BBQ. The grill fires up in , intersection of North Lake Drive and East Capitol Drive, at 11:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m.

SHS graduation ceremonies — Students will signal the end of their high school careers when they walk across the Shorewood High School Arena stage in Thursday night's graduation ceremony. Commencement ceremonies start at 8 p.m.

Farewell to Superintendent McCann — The will hold a “goodbye and goodluck reception” for Superintendent Blane McCann on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m., in the front lobby, 1701 E. Capitol Dr.

McCann is leaving Shorewood schools after 10 years.

Village meetings — Officials will meet for a regular Village Board meeting at 7:30 and discuss , among other agenda items. Find the full agenda here.

On Thursday at 5:30 p.m., officials will hold a budget and finance committee meeting, discussing the village’s 2011 audit.

Both meetings are held at , 3930 N. Murray Ave.

4th of July fundraiser at Culver's — Shorewood 4th of July Fundraiser is set for Monday at Culver's from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Ten percent of all proceeds (dine in or carry out) will be donated to help offset the costs of entertainment for Shorewood's Indenpence Day parade. Funds are needed to bring in two world class, 150 member, drum and bugle corps, the Madison Scouts and Spirit of Atlanta. Join Shorewood Intermediate School students, who will be greeting guests and delivering food to tables and cars, in their efforts to make Shorewood's 2012 4th of July celebration the best to date.

— , 2107 E. Capitol Dr., will host a rain barrel workshop, presented by Stephen McCarthy of Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewage District. Learn the design and construction of rain gardens.

With 35 years of experience as a landscape architecture and a graduate of the University of Wisconsin – Madison Department of Landscape Architecture, McCarthy will teach how to incorporate a rain garden into a residential landscape, explain what’s behind the plant selection, and pass on information about the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewage District’s rain barrel program. 

The workshop starts at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.

School meeting — Officials will meet for a finance committee meeting to discuss the district’s infrastructure. The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. in the conference room, 1701 E. Capitol Dr.
