Shorewood Patch Week in Review

In case you missed it, here are some of the stories from last week, you need to know about.

Some new bricks have showed up on the old property that used to house The Brit Inn, as its owner tries to rebuild after it went up in flames nearly two years ago. Owner Byung Kuk Yun said once the weather permits, the building should be finished within three months. Yun has been trying to rebuild since May 2009, when the former British-style bar at on Oakland Avenue burned to the ground. But problem after problem kept delaying those efforts. Yun had to remove asbestos on the site and had to hire a contractor to gt rid of a large oil drum buried underneath the property.

The Shorewood School Board Tuesday night voted unanimously to ask voters to approve $13.6 million to help the district meet its long-term financial obligations. If approved in the April 5 election, the district will borrow $13.645 million to pay for health benefits for retirees and to refinance its Wisconsin Retirement System debt.

In a sharp contrast from other meetings on Shorewood's flooding problems, some residents thanked and even applauded village officials Tuesday night after hearing details of a proposed $71.5 million plan to address the problematic sewer system. And that was after learning that the comprehensive plan was going to hit them in the pocketbook in a variety of ways.

As the second-leading scorer in the Woodland-Blue Conference averaging 17.7 point per game, he has become the face and leader of the Greyhounds and one of the top players in the greater Milwaukee region. He broke 300 points for the season Tuesday night, has drained 35 three-pointers thus far holding down the second spot in three-point shots made and is shooting 78 percent from the free throw line.
