Shorewood is seeking help from residents in watering trees in their neighborhood during the area's dry spell.

The village is asking residents to water trees in front of their homes, which are 5-years-old or younger. Extremely dry conditions significantly stress trees, especially those that may not yet be well established, according to the village. They recommend slow, deep watering.

Street trees lower urban air temperatures and asphalt, concrete streets and parking lots are known to increase urban temperatures three to seven degrees. These temperatures increases significantly impact energy costs to homeowners and consumers.

Additionally, properly shaded neighborhood, mostly from urban street trees, can reduce energy bills for a household from 15 to 35 percent.
