Report: Darling 'Flip-Flops' Stance on Fired Police Pay

Sen. Alberta Darling asks Wisconsin governor to veto budget amendment she supported and authored.

State Sen. Alberta Darling’s has “flip-flopped” on her stance on whether fired Milwaukee police officers should still be paid, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s PolitiFact feature says.

Along with state Rep. Robin Vos, Darling co-authored the provision as part of Gov. Scott Walker’s 2011-2013 budget as co-chairmen of the Legislature’s Joint Committee on Finance, but after pressure from city officials she backed off.

She would later urge Walker to veto the provision, PolitiFact said. Walker vetoed the measure Sunday before he approved the two-year budget.

After looking into the matter in greater depth, Darling would changed her position on the issue. PolitiFact said Darling said fired cops were treated more fairly than she had been led to believe.
