Easy Night for Trustee Incumbent, Newcomer; Others Win by Wide Margin

Incumbent Michael Maher and newcomer Don Ford won the two seats on the Shorewood Village Board with an easy defeat of two other candidates.

Maher led with 2,678 votes and Ford collected 2,033.

“I’m very excited … I love living in Shorewood and (am) happy to be able to serve the village and residents and do what I can to contribute to the current board,” Ford said.

Maher said he is very appreciative of the voters who cast their ballots in his favor.

“I’m looking forward to another three years of working hard for the community,” Maher said.

Mike Sauer (1,630 votes) and Christopher Piotrowski (965) challenged, but fell short of capturing the two seats. The winners will serve three-year terms with a $1,000 annual salary.

Village Clerk Sherry Grant said voter turnout was easily higher than it was in recent years and said with confidence it was more than 50 percent. The highest turnout in the last three years for a spring election was 33 percent.

Michael Mishlove and Ruth Treisman ran unopposed for two seats on the Shorewood School Board; they also serve three-year terms.

Meanwhile, Milwaukee County Executive candidate Chris Abele and Supreme Court Justice candidate JoAnne Kloppenburg cleaned up in Shorewood as they both grabbed at least 70 percent of the local vote.

The Milwaukee County Circuit Court election for Branch 18 wasn’t much different as current Judge Pedro Colon received 65 percent of the Shorewood vote over challenger Christoper R. Lipscomb Sr.
