Deadline Looming to Enter Your Block Into Best Neighborhood Contest

Is your block worthy of Shorewood Neighborhood of the Year consideration? Application deadline is Feb. 28.

There's less than a week left to enter your block into Shorewood's annual contest to determine the best neighborhood in the village.

The Shorewood Connects project is seeking applicants for the annual award, in order to highlight all of the ways neighbors are building connections with each other in the village. Applications are limited to one per neighborhood and are due by Feb. 28. Click here more details on applying

Applications will be judged based on the block's inclusiveness, communication and organization, and whether the block incorporates a service element.

The winning neighborhood will be featured in an article in Shorewood Today Magazine, and will have signs posted on their street noting the award.

In addition, the winning block will have an opportunity to march behind the "Neighborhood of the Year" banner at the annual Shorewood Fourth of July parade.

Past winners include the 2600 — 2700 block of E. Shorewood Blvd. and most recently the 4200 block of N. Ardmore Ave., which cited a long list of organized activities in its application last year including creating its own block newspaper, offering “front porch theater” produced by the kids, hosting block parties in the summer and at Halloween and having its own “block anthem”.

In addition, block residents created a basket for the Shorewood Foundation’s annual fundraiser, collected items for military care packages and have collected food for the Hunger Task Force at Thanksgiving.

The contest is sponsored by the Shorewood Connects Neighbors project. The project's mission is to enhance the ability of older residents to remain in their neighborhoods and contribute to the life of the Village.
