Candidate Hopes to Keep Shorewood Vibrant, Sustainable as Board Member

Christopher Piotrowski says his financial, business and innovation background would prove to be an asset for the village.

Trustee candidate Christopher Piotrowski says he is running for Village Board because he wants to ensure Shorewood remains a vibrant and sustainable community for his children, and future generations.

Piotrowski, 36, , during the April 5 election.

Piotrowski has lived in Shorewood for 10 years, with his wife and three children. He holds a master’s degree in economics from Marquette University and said he learned about financial and urban planning while completing his education.

He currently works for S.C. Johnson, a producer of household products, doing product innovation. He said his professional background would be an asset to local government.

“I think I have a very unique background of business and fiscal responsibility,” Piotrowski said.

He said he has experienced the sewer backups first hand, as they hit the village July causing basement backups, so he takes the sewer issue very seriously. He added he believes the village is moving in the right direction with their comprehensive sewer plan.

“There are some residents that would like to see the plan move faster, for obvious reasons… so the question is what are those tradeoffs if we want to speed up the plan,” he said.

Bundling road repairs with sewer repairs something he said the village should also do. Village officials have discussed coupling road and sewer repairs in the past as part of the village's comprehensive plan.

He said his unique background in innovation, business and finance would be an asset to the village as it will likely have to navigate a budget gap next year, if the governor’s biennial budget is approved.

“One thing I do feel strongly about with the state of the U.S. economy as a whole, which definitely trickles down to Shorewood, is that our true competitive advantage is going to be education,” Piotrowski said.

He added keeping Shorewood schools strong is important for the village, as the next generation will have to compete globally.

The village could do a better job of attracting more families and showcasing the school district he said.

“It’s a very walkable community… we need to do a better job of proactively attracting people to the community and having a strong voice in terms of why they should chose Shorewood versus other areas,” he said.

Incumbent , and newcomers and are also on the April ballot, vying for two seats on the Village Board.
