Barrett Garners Nearly 60 Percent of Vote in Shorewood

With voters only allowed to vote for one candidate in the gubernatorial recall primary, 77 percent of Shorewood voters chose to vote for a Democratic candidate.

Milwaukee Mayor and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Tom Barrett was the top vote-getter in Shorewood in Tuesday's recall primary, receiving far more votes than Gov. Scott Walker.

Of the 40 percent of registered Shorewood voters who hit the polls Tuesday, 2,343 casted ballots in favor of Barrett, or 59 percent of voters, while Walker received 21 percent of the vote with 838 votes. Democrat Kathleen Falk received 15 percent of the overall Shorewood vote garnering 613 votes.

Barrett won the statewide Democratic primary election Tuesday night, and he also won the support of Democrats in Whitefish Bay. He won 77 percent of his party's vote in Shorewood, while Falk received 20 percent of the Democratic vote.

Democratic Secretary of State Doug LaFollette received 30 votes, and Democratic State Sen. Kathleen Vinehout received 47 votes. Gladys Huber, the fake Democrat in the race, received 7 votes.

Walker grabbed 95 percent of the vote in the Republican primary, with his challenger, Arthur Kohl-Riggs grabbing 44 votes.

In the Democratic primary election to run against Republican Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch, Mahlon Mitchell, President of the Professional Fire Fighters of Wisconsin, emerged as the top vote-getter in Shorewood with 59 percent of the vote, with 1,554 ballots cast in his favor.

Milwaukee private investigator Ira Robbins received 508 votes or 22 percent of the vote, and Fake Democratic candidate Isaac Wiex received 402 votes.

At the polls on Tuesday, Rosemary Feiza-Lenz said she voted for Tom Barrett because she believes he can beat Walker.

"He has the best interest of education in mind, and that's very important to me," she said. "He also has the best interest of workers and that's important and I trust that in him, those are a priority."

Feiza-Lenz added Barrett appears to be more energized this time around.

Additionally, poll workers ran into a small hitch when a jammed voting machine caused problems.

Lake Bluff Elementary poll inspector Mary Jo McDonald said a combination of an overvote and jammed vote tape caused a ballot to become lodged a machine; voting ceased for about 10 minutes.

McDonald added voters were steadily piling up at the polling place at 1600 E. Lake Bluff Blvd. while they resolved the problem and got the machine back up and running.
