Year in Review — No. 5: Dog Incident Victim Lied to Police About How it Happened

As the year winds down, we'll all surely look back at what we've done in 2012. Here at Shorewood Patch, we're doing the same thing with a list of the top 10 local stories of the year.

No. 5 — Dog Incident Victim Lied to Police About How it Happened

Shorewood police canvassed the village for a 60-pound black dog with a white chest following a report the canine mauled a local woman. However, after receiving treatment and being released from a local hospital, the victim's original story — that the dog was loose and unfamiliar — was shown to be false.

On June 14, police were told the victim, a 31-year-old Shorewood woman, came upon the dog near North Oakland Avenue and East Olive Street and went to check its collar when she was bit. 

It later became known the woman was a professional dog walker, walking the dog in question on Milwaukee's east side at East Locust Street and Shepard Avenue, and lied to protect the canine from being put down.
