The 24-year-old told police she needed money to support her heroin addiction.

A 24-year-old Milwaukee woman has been charged with stealing property from unlocked cars in Whitefish Bay and Shorewood.

According to a criminal complaint, the woman admitted to breaking into cars in Whitefish Bay and Shorewood because she needed money to support her heroin addiction. She admitted to entering unlocked cars in the 5300 block of Kent Avenue in Whitefish Bay and the 2500 block of Marion Street in Shorewood.

The car in Whitefish Bay was entered sometime between 11 p.m. Aug. 29 and 11 a.m. on Aug. 30. She stole an iPod Touch from the unlocked vehicle.

The car in Shorewood was also unlocked, and contained a Marc Jacobs purse containing $100 singles and several credit cards. After the theft, which occurred between 10 p.m. on Aug. 27 and 6:20 a.m. on Aug. 28, the female thief used one of the credit cards to purchase cigarettes at the 7-11 on Oakland Avenue.

If convicted on both counts, she faces a maximum 18 months in prison and $20,000 in fines.
