String of Burglaries Has Police Urging Residents to Lock Up

Shorewood has experienced at least four home burglaries since Sept. 28 and thieves have also hit homes in Whitefish Bay, Fox Point and Milwaukee's East Side, according to local police.

Shorewood police are asking residents to take precautions avoid becoming a victim following a string of home burglaries in the village and neighboring communities.

The rash of burglaries includes one overnight on Sept. 27, where a home in the 2600 block of East Beverly Road was illegally entered and a $200 wallet, containing $50 in cash, was stolen. Police say entry to the home was likely gained through a rear door, which was found open.

Then on Sept. 28, a home in the 2700 block of East Jarvis Street was burglarized. Police say that home was entered sometime between 3 and 3:45 a.m. and a purse containing several credit cards, a men’s wallet and cell phone was taken. The items were valued at about $85.

On Sept. 29, two apartment units in a building in the 3800 block of North Oakland Avenue were illegally entered. One apartment was entered illegally by prying back a deadbolt on the door. Jewelry, a cell phone and other items were taken, though police didn’t yet have a value for the property. There were signs of forced entry to the other apartment unit as well, where a $700 HP laptop, and $1,500 IBM laptop were stolen. The illegal home entries took place sometime between 10:30 a.m. and 1:55 p.m.

Police ask residents make sure their home is locked, including windows, and lights inside the home as well as on porches and entryways are left on.
