Stolen Vehicle; Smash-And-Grab Theft

The latest reports from the Shorewood Police Department.

A stolen vehicle, two vehicle entries and a stranded motorist scheme were among the situations Shorewood police responded to last week:

  • A 2005 Dodge magnum was stolen from the lot behind City Market sometime between 11 p.m. on June 25 and 9:30 a.m. June 26. The vehicle, valued at $3,000, was later recovered near the area of 27th St. and Capitol Drive. Police believe a car key may have been left in the console, as there was no damage to the steering column.
  • The front window of a car was broken in a smash-and-grab theft sometime between 6:30 p.m. Saturday and 5:40 a.m. Sunday in a rear alley of the 2500 block of Stratford Court. The thief stole an iPhone, two iPhone chargers, $10 in change, a pair of sunglasses and a digital radio tuner.
  • A purse and a backpack were stolen from a car in the 4300 block of Marlborough Drive on Saturday between 8 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. The purse contained credit cards, a check book, and other valuables. The backpack contained clothes.
  • A Shorewood man was duped out of $280 when he tried to help a man whose vehicle was stuck on the I-43 off-ramp at Green Bay Road at 11:20 a.m. June 23. The stranded motorist, who claimed he was a newspaper reporter,  told the man he needed money to repair his car, which led the Shorewood man to drive him to North Shore Bank and lend him $280. He later found out all of the personal information the man gave him was false.
