Speeding With Hazard Lights On Means OWI for Wind Lake Man
Suspect speeding though Shorewood apologizes to a police officer for his poor driving.
A 20-year-old Wind Lake man is facing drunk driving charges after a Shorewood police officer spotted him speeding through the village with his hazard lights on.
Joseph Z. Kern was charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court Thursday with one count of second offense operating while intoxicated and one count of operating a motor vehicle with a prohibited alcohol concentration. If convicted, he faces up to six months in prison and $1,100 in fines.

A Shorewood police officer was on patrol Monday near North Oakland Avenue and East Kenmore Place when he spotted Kern speeding southbound on Oakland in a Volkswagon Jetta with his hazard lights on. The officer pulled the car over and Kern said he was “sorry” for “driving like an (expletive).”
The officer noticed Kern smelled of alcohol and had him perform field sobrierty tests he then failed. Kern had a blood alcohol level of 0.15, which is nearly twice the legal limit to drive in Wisconsin.

Kern was previously convicted of drunk driving in 2011. He will make his initial appearance in court June 18.
