Shorewood Taps New Deputy Police Chief from Within Department

Lt. Kevin Carini was promoted to second-in-command Wednesday night with the blessing of the village's Police Commission.

A veteran within the Shorewood Police Department was tapped Wednesday to take over duties as the department's deputy chief.

The village’s Police Commission unanimously approved the promotion of Lt. Kevin Carini.

“I’m very happy to be moving up in the department and continue to work with the people that I’m currently supervising and mentor them and coach them and keep this department great,” he said.

Shorewood started the search for a new deputy chief after from the department in November after 27 years.

Police Chief David Banaszynski said he's very pleased with Carini taking over as the department's second-in-command.

“I look forward to continuing to work with Kevin; I think we’ll make a great team,” he said.

Carini started his career in law enforcement in Shorewood and has been with the department for 18 years. He said with the promtion, he has held every rank within the department except police chief.

He holds a master’s degree in management and a bachelor's in criminal justice and human services from Springfield College in Milwaukee.

The Police Commission said it will now have to find a candidate to fill Carini's vacated lieutenant position.
