Shorewood Man Using Craigslist to Find Suspects in Attempted Assault Incident

Victim told police he punched a man in the face after two suspects nearly hit him with their car, threatened to rape his wife and told him they were carrying guns.

A Shorewood man is utilizing Craigslist to solicit help in finding two men he claims threatened and attempted to assault him on Friday.

The man says after an altercation near the intersection of East Lake Bluff and North Oakland Avenue at about 4 p.m., the suspects followed him to his home and threatened to "rape your wife" and "kill everyone in the house."

According to police and the Craigslist posting, the victim was attempting to legally cross Lake Bluff Avenue southbound, when two men in a large black BMW sedan nearly struck him.

He gave the men a glare, and both the driver and passenger rolled down their window and yelled threats and insults at him. The driver then got out of the car and approached the Shorewood man, claiming he and the passenger were armed with Glock pistols. Feeling threatened, the victim punched the suspect in the face twice. The driver retreated to his car and drove away, after throwing the victim’s gym bag into traffic.

The man said he then walked home and noticed the two suspects drive up to his Shorewood home and threatened to hurt his wife and other family in his home. The suspects added they were felons and out on bail, before driving off.

The man said he isn’t married but feared for the safety of a woman and child he lives with.

The man provided authorities with a license plate number he pulled from the car, but police say the plate didn’t exist. Police have no other leads at this point.

Police say the victim hasn’t reported any other incidents since Friday.
