Shorewood Man Stabbed 13 Times After Lover's Quarrel

Homer Washington, 21, told police he stabbed 57-year-old Clarence Charles after a physical altercation the night of July 15.

A 21-year-old Milwaukee man has been charged with killing 57-year-old Clarence Charles in his Oakland Avenue apartment building last week.

Police found Charles stabbed to death in his apartment at 4460 Oakland Ave. at about 8 p.m. July 15. They were dispatched to the scene on a missing persons report from a family member.

The suspect, a 21-year-old Milwaukee man named Homer Washington, told police that the two had a lover's quarrel that ended with Charles threatening to kill Washington with a knife. Charles eventually stabbed himself in the neck, and the two continued to fight over the knife until Washington gained control and stabbed Charles a dozen more times.

Medical examiners counted 13 stab wounds in Charles' body, including six in his abdomen, six in his throat and one in his neck. After the incident, Washington crawled out of an apartment window and drove away in Charles' car. Washington told police he sold the car for $250.

Washington was charged Friday afternoon with first-degree intentional homicide and operating a vehicle without the owner's consent. If he's convicted, he faces life in prison.
