Shorewood Man Could Face Second OWI Charge after Injuring Three in Hit and Run

Police say the 23-year-old admitted to driving drunk and leaving the scene after a car accident.

Police say charges are being recommended against a 23-year-old Shorewood man for second offense drunken driving and hit and run after crashing into a parked car on North Oakland Avenue and injuring three this weekend.

The incident occurred in the 3500 block of North Oakland Avenue on Saturday and the suspect admitted to driving drunk and leaving the scene of the accident, according to police.

The victims' car, a Toyota Corolla, was facing southbound and double-parked in traffic with its hazard lights on, when the suspect, driving a Ford Mustang, rear-ended the Toyota.

There was substantial damage to both cars and three occupants in the Toyota sustained injuries, though they were reportedly minor and the victims declined transport to a local hospital for further medical attention.

The suspect was tracked down to his home 90 minutes later, using the license plate that fell off his car at the scene, and police say he smelled of alcohol and appeared intoxicated. He would later admit to driving drunk and the hit and run.

Authorities are waiting on a blood test taken from the suspect, which will determined his blood alcohol content at the time of the accident.

The suspect was charged and convicted of drunken driving in 2008, according to online court records.
