Shorewood House Burglarized while Residents Are Home

Police say two purses were stolen from the dining room table of a North Stowell Avenue home while its residents were in another room.

Shorewood's 12th home burglary in just a little more than a month came Thursday as a home was illegally entered while residents were in another room.

The burglary occurred sometime between 5 and 7 p.m. at a home on the 4400 block of North Stowell Avenue.

Police say two purses were snatched from a dining room table. Entry was gained through an unlocked back door.

The purses contained two wallets, $100 in cash, a $200 iPod Nano, cell phone, medication and credit cards that were used to rack up fraudulent charges.

Residents told police they didn't see the culprit(s), but the family dog started barking when the home was illegally entered.

People - lock your flipping doors! Even when you are inside! As much as we would like to think Shorewood is this wonderful safe haven - when it comes to crimes like this it is not!!

For some reason this makes me think of that scene in the Big Lebowski when he finds his stolen car and he asks the cops if they have any 'leads'. Interesting that these break-ins are so brazen and that they perps get away so easily. Time to make another trip to Gander Mountain I suppose.
