Shorewood Hit with Several Burglaries, Car Break-ins Last Week

Police say a teenager was home babysitting when one Shorewood house was burglarized

Last week, Shorewood experienced five burglaries and car break-ins in two days, including a house being burglarized while a teenager was home babysitting.

Around 5 p.m. Thursday, a teenager was on the second floor of a Shorewood home with children, in the 4100 block of North Farwell Avenue, when she told police the home was entered and her purse stolen. Inside the $50 purse was a $200 iPod touch, cell phone and wallet. Police don't know the value of the cell phone or wallet.

That same day, a home in the 3700 block of North Maryland Avenue was illegally entered through the front door and $1400 taken from a bedroom dresser drawer. Police say the house was locked, but there were no signs of forced entry. The incident occurred sometime between 4 and 11:23 p.m., while the resident was at work.

Just a block away in the 3800 block of North Maryland Avenue, an unlocked Toyota Camry was entered and $20 Pioneer CD player taken from its trunk. Police say entry to the trunk was gained after a button in the cab was pushed.

In a different incident, a window was busted out and a Toyota Camry illegally entered while it was parked in the 2200 block of East Stratford Court. The owner told police nothing was stolen, but estimates have the damage at $600.

Friday, a locked garage was illegally entered and $300 snow blower taken from a home in the 3900 block of North Farwell Avenue. A car parked in the garage was rummaged through, but nothing was taken police say. There were no signs of forced entry, however.
