Police Report: Shorewood Hit with 8 Car Break-ins Last Week

A roundup of the latest from the Shorewood police reports.

Over the span of a week, Shorewood police received reports of eight car break-ins, all of which were unlocked, and nearly $1,300 worth of cash and property stolen.

Two illegal entries to autos were reported on Friday, with an unlocked car parked in the 3900 block of North Maryland Avenue entered around 7:15 a.m. and a $100 MP3 player and headphones taken, and an unlocked car parked in the 2700 block of East Shorewood Boulevard broken into sometime between 4 p.m. and 12:30 a.m. and $10 in coins taken. 

Sometime overnight on Thursday, two cars were targeted while parked in a driveway in the 3800 block of North Farwell Avenue. A GPS unit was taken from one and a 2006 Honda Civic was stolen using keys that were left in the center console. Police say both were unlocked at the time. The stolen Honda was recovered by Milwaukee police Sunday, in the 3700 block of North 64th Street in Milwaukee. The Civic was towed to the Shorewood police station. Authorities say there was some damage to the car.

Then sometime between 4:30 and 5:15 p.m. on Jan. 4, a $100 Garmin GPS and $400 Black Berry cell phone were taken from an unlocked car while it was parked in the 1900 East Capitol Drive.

On Tuesday night, numerous items were taken from a car parked in the 2200 block of East Edgewood Avenue, including a $300 pair of Polo sunglasses, a $200 Coach sunglasses and a $100 Garmin GPS.

Sometime overnight on Jan. 3, a $150 pair of Callaway sunglasses were snatched from an unlocked car parked in the 4200 block of North Morris Boulevard.

Additionally on Jan. 2, an unlocked SUV parked in the 3500 block of North Summit Avenue was illegally entered and a container with about $20 in change was taken from the center console.

In other police news:

  • When the Wells Fargo ATM machine at 4015 N. Oakland Ave. spit out the $40 a woman requested, a teenaged boy jumped in and grabbed the money and fled, according to police. The incident happened about noon on Sunday and police haven’t located the thief.
  • A 60-year-old Bosnian woman was arrested Jan. 5, after police say she attempted to walk out of , 4145 N. Oakland Ave., with $7 worth of merchandise. A store employee stopped the woman before she could leave.
  • in Shorewood, 4081 N. Oakland Ave., called police after they realized they had lost $150 in a quick change scam. The scam works when a customer pays for merchandise and then claims to have been shortchanged on the money they should be receive back after paying with cash.
  • About $550 in damage was reported Jan. 2 after boulders were thrown at the rear window of a car parked in the 3500 block of North Cramer Avenue. The rocks caused “spider-webbing” of the window, police said.
  • A red Niemen Marcus tote bag with $320 worth of property was reported stolen from a foyer in the restaurant, 3565 N. Morris Blvd. The bag contained a pair of shoes, a book, prefilled-out check and makeup.
  • About $200 in cash was reported stolen from a cabinet in a conference room at, 3830 N. Morris Blvd. The theft occurred on Jan. 3 around 3:30 p.m. and school officials told police they would handle the matter internally.
  • A Shorewood man told police Saturday his name was used to open fraudulent credit card accounts at three local stores, with $700 charged to a card in his name at the Apple store.
  • A Shorewood woman reported Sunday that her recall Walker sign was stolen from the front yard of her home in the 1600 block of East Menlo Boulevard. The sign is valued at $10.
