Police Report: Two Arrested for Drunken Driving

A roundup of the latest from the Shorewood police reports.

Shorewood police made two drunken driving arrests within the last few days, with one man's blood/alcohol level calculated at twice the legal limit.

A 66-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested for operating while intoxicated Friday at about 11:10 p.m., after police pulled him over in the 2700 block of East Beverly Avenue for erratic driving and operating without headlights. The man failed a field sobriety test and police say his blood alcohol concentration was calucated at .19. It was the man’s first OWI offense.

Monday around midnight, a 23-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested for drunken driving after he was caught speeding in the 3600 block of North Oakland Avenue. The man failed a field sobriety test, but refused to submit to a blood alcohol content test. It’s the man first such offense.

Also in the police reports:

  • A contractor sustained 8-to-10 serious lacerations to his face Thursday when he lost his grip on a concrete saw. While working on a water main in the 2800 block of East Menlo Boulevard, a pipe shifted and the saw snapped back toward the worker’s face. The contractor was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
  • A 42-year-old man and 46-year-old woman, both from Milwaukee, were arrested for retail theft Thursday after police say they observed the two on surveillance video at , 4145 N. Oakland Ave., concealing $44 worth of hard liquor in a yellow purse. Police were on scene talking with security personnel when the suspects attempted to steal the alcohol.
  • A manager at Blockbuster, 4108 N. Oakland Ave., told police Thursday they believe one man is responsible for the theft of 80 DVDs from the store over the last several months. Police are investigating.
  • A glass alcohol bottle was thrown through the window of , 2025 E. Capitol Dr., the owner told police Friday. Damage is estimated at $150.
  • Two $400 aluminum ladders and two $60 ladder holdouts were reported stolen Friday from the front yard of a home in the 3800 block of North Farwell Avenue. A construction company working on a home saw a man put the equipment into a silver and blue Jeep Cherokee.
  • Police arrested a 35-year-old Milwaukee man for retail theft Sunday after he attempted to leave , 4027 N. Oakland Ave., without paying for $4.27 worth of eggs, onions and butter.
  • A $90 Next brand BMX bicycle and $90 JD Bug scooter were reported stolen Monday from a home in the 3800 block of North Bartlett Avenue.
  • A teacher found a spent bullet casing Monday near choir room rafters in the Performing Arts building, 1701 E. Capitol Dr.
