Police Report: Shorewood Man Arrested after Causing $1,000 in Damage to Car; Teens Caught Smoking Pot

A roundup of the latest from the Shorewood police reports.

A 29-year-old Shorewood man was arrested for criminal damage to property and disorderly conduct early Friday morning after police say he jumped onto the hood of a car, and caused $1,000 worth of damage.

Police say the incident occurred about 2 a.m. in the 4400 block of North Oakland Avenue when the suspect jumped on the hood of another car, punched the windshield several times and ripped the windshield wipers from the car.

Police aren't sure what lead to the incident.

  • A 16-year-old boy and 17-year-old boy, both from Whitefish Bay, were arrested Sunday after they admitted to police to smoking marijuana. A Department of Natural Resources warden called police after he found the two smoking pot down by a Milwaukee River bank. Police say the boys were also found to have drug paraphernalia on them.
  • A 36-year-old Milwaukee man, Dwight Vaugh, was arrested June 5 and is facing retail theft charges after police say he was caught on surveillance video stealing a wallet from a woman’s purse while she shopped at , 4081 N. Oakland Ave. The man used a credit card from the wallet to make fraudulent charges. The wallet also contained $20 in cash, police say.
  • Two teenagers were cited for trespassing and underage possession of alcohol after a resident in the 3900 block of North Lake Drive called police Thursday to report the juveniles lighting off fireworks on a private Lake Michigan beach. Police say the teens provided the name of the individual who supplied them with the alcohol, and a 21-year-old West Allis man was subsequently arrested and cited.
  • Sometime overnight on June 5, a resident told police several items including a $45 weed cutter, $100 leaf blower, $300 lawnmower, $5 gas can and $80 vacuum canister were taken from their garage in the 3500 block of North Murray Avenue. Entry to the closed and locked garage was gained through unknown means, police say.
  • A 45-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested June 6 after police say he walked out of , 4145 N. Oakland Ave., without paying for several items. Around 10:54 p.m., the grocery store called police to report the theft. Police later found the man standing on a bus stop at the intersection of East Capitol Drive and North Newhall Street with the stolen items including soap, toothbrushes, seven deodorant products and two bottles of body wash.
  • An 18-year-old Shorewood man was arrested after police say he grabbed more than $1,000 worth of electronics from a home in the 3700 block of North Morris Boulevard. Police say the man was invited into the home on the afternoon of June 6, because he was a friend of the residence, but later left with a game console, game controllers and games and a laptop. The items have been returned to the owner.
  • An unlocked car was illegally entered and $2 in cash taken sometime overnight on June 6 in the 2100 block of East Newton Avenue.
  • A $40 Weber grill, $10 in cash and $2 purse were reported stolen sometime overnight on June 6 from a garage in the 3500 block of North Murray Avenue. The garage door was closed and locked at the time, but entry was gained through a side door. A car parked in the garage was also rummaged through.
  • Four window panes on the front door of a home in the 3500 block of North Fredrick Avenue were reported busted out sometime between 2 and 8 a.m. on Friday. Police estimate the damage at $300.
  • Two $700 stone elephants were reported stolen sometime overnight on Friday from a front patio of a home in the 3500 block of East Summit Avenue.
  • A Shorewood woman came into the Shorewood police station on June 5 to report that her son’s orange iPod Nano had been stolen about a month ago from a backpack during track and field practice at , 1701 E. Capitol Dr.
