Police Report: OWI Arrest after Car Accident; Burglar Confronted at Hubbard Park Lodge

A roundup of the latest from the Shorewood police log.

While investigating a minor car accident in the 1100 block of East Capitol Drive on Tuesday, police say they smelled alcohol on the breath of a driver, and made a drunken driving arrest. 

Sobriety tests were conducted, which the driver failed. The driver registered a 0.12 blood alcohol content during an Intoximeter test.

Police say the driver rear-ended another car in traffic. No one was injured, and the driver was cited for following too close and operating while intoxicated.

Also in the police report:

  • Police say a man was confronted by an employee upon breaking into the Hubbard Park Lodge, 35665 N. Morris Blvd., through an open, second story balcony window, on Tuesday. The suspect fled the scene on a bicycle. Police were unable to locate him.
  • A small white dog was quarantined at a local veterinarian office after biting a person on a sidewalk in the 4300 block of North Maryland Avenue on Tuesday. Police say the dog’s bite broke the skin of the victim. The dog’s rabies vaccination had expired. The victim didn’t immediately seek medical attention, police say.
  • Police cited a man for theft after they say they discovered he had stolen license plates on his car. Police were on the scene of a minor car accident Tuesday when an officer discovered the stolen plates. The driver told police a friend gave him the plates. No one was injured in the car accident.
  • The front passenger window was smashed out of a car, and $350 in items taken while it was parked in a lot on the Estabrook Parkway. Among the items stolen were an iPod, wallet, purse and $100 in cash. The incident occurred sometime between 6 and 6:33 p.m.
  • A woman turned over a Smith and Wesson 22 magazine with 12 live rounds to police Wednesday after she found it on a sidewalk near the intersection of North Sheffield Avenue and East Kensington Boulevard.
  • A $239 patio table umbrella was reported stolen from a home in the 4500 block of North Sheffield Avenue, sometime overnight on Wednesday.
  • The rear window of a car was damaged, while parked in the 1400 block of East Elmdale Court, sometime overnight on Wednesday. The car was not entered.
