Police Report: 2 Car Break-ins; Man Reports Counterfeit $20 Bill

A Shorewood woman phoned police Monday morning to report her purse stolen from her car parked in the Sendik’s parking structure, 4027 N. Oakland Ave.

She told police the theft occurred sometime between 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. from her locked car, though police could find no damage or signs of forced entry.

Inside the woman’s stolen $30 purse were two rings with a total value of $1,100, sunglasses, $25 in cash, five credit cards and a driver’s license.

Also in the police reports:

  • A car was illegally entered on Saturday sometime between 3 and 7 p.m. while parked in the 4000 block of North Larkin Street. Police say the lock on a passenger side door might have been picked to gain entry. Police are working to gather details on items stolen from the car.
  • A Shorewood man called police Friday to report a counterfeit $20 bill he believes he withdrew from an ATM machine at a local bank. The bill was handed over to police.
  • A Shorewood man told police Friday his ex-fiancée stole his checkbook from a mailbox in his apartment building in the 1600 block of East River Park Court, forged 10 checks and cashed them. Police are still investigating the values of the checks.
