Police Nab Several Drunken Drivers over Past Couple Weeks

Shorewood police have been busy making operating while intoxicated arrests including several drivers driving at excessive speeds and who claimed to had hit a pole.

There have been several drunken driving arrests in a little over a week’s time, according to the Shorewood police log.

A 31-year-old Shorewood man was arrested for drunken driving Dec. 29 after calling the local fire department to report his own car accident.

According to police, the man called North Shore Fire to report he had struck a pole somewhere in Milwaukee, upon arriving at his Shorewood home in the 4400 block of North Oakland Avenue.

Police arrested the man for first offense OWI after he registered a 0.12 blood alcohol content during a Breathalyzer. Milwaukee police told Shorewood authorities they couldn’t find the pole the driver claimed he hit.

On Jan. 1, police say a 24-year-old Mequon was arrested for operating while intoxicated after he was initially pulled over for speeding 25 MPH over the posted limit, near the intersection of East Capitol Drive and North Wilson Drive.

The driver also was driving without his car’s rear lights lit, nearly hit a curb and when prompted to pull over nearly hit a pole and stopped halfway into a crosswalk, police say.

He failed on scene sobriety tests and a Breathalyzer registered at 0.24 blood alcohol content.

Then on Jan. 2, a 34-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested for drunken driving after police clocked him going 80 MPH in a 25 MPH zone.

According to the report, the driver immediately stumbled out of his car and placed his hands up upon being pulled over by police in the 3300 block of North Oakland Avenue at 1:34 a.m. When an officer made contact, he noticed the driver smelled of alcohol.

The driver refused to submit to field sobriety tests or a Breathalyzer.

On Saturday at 12:03 a.m., a 19-year-old Milwaukee man was pulled over for driving 62 MPH in a 30 MPH zone in the 1500 block of East Capitol Drive, and later arrested for drunken driving and possession of marijuana, according to a police report.

During the traffic stop, police say the man smelled of alcohol, had bloodshot eyes and admitted to consuming alcohol. A search of the man's car resulted in police finding 1.55 grams of pot and two fake Illinois driver's licenses.

The man failed field sobriety tests and registered a 0.15 blood alcohol content during a Breathalyzer.
