When I had my permit to carry in Florida the officer that trained me had a great piece of advise. He said a criminal is never looking for a fair fight. If he feels that you might have a gun, he will simply choose someone else. This was why rental car companies in Florida had to stop badging their cars with company logos. They were getting car jacked because the criminals knew they were from out of town & did not have a gun. I knew several people that carried. All had a story of using their weapon in self defense however none of them had to pull the trigger. You merely need to show that you were armed. I believe that someone has identified Shorewood as a target rich environment. The average citizen here does not mind being the victim. I for one am thinking about getting my permit renewed. I'm sure that I will not be able to go to dinner or enter a store on Oakland Ave, but I will be able to walk my dog after dark. PS. Adam, "stuck a sharp object in his back" would indicate that the victim had been stabbed. Was this the case?

No, the victim was not stabbed. I reworded the sentence for accuracy.

I live in the 3600 block of Maryland. About 18 years ago, my daughter had a gun pulled on her in back of our home...the Village needs much better lighting at night. If they changed the glass in the street lights, they would be brighter. I called the village about the poor lighting, and I was told that it is for AMBIANCE...this is no 1920...we NEED, and deserve better lighting. In the Summer the leaves block most of the light...
