Men Wearing Bandanas Asking for Money

Nobody was hurt during the panhandling incidents on the southwest corner of the village Friday night.

Two men wearing bandanas over their face unsuccessfully tried to shake down three people for money Friday night.

The three incidents – which Shorewood police are not calling attempted robberies – happened around 9:30 p.m. Friday. In all three incidents, witnesses reported a woman transporting two men in a dark green, early 1990s Chevy Cavalier. The men reportedly asked several people for money, but nothing was stolen during any of the incidents.

In the 1000 block of Congress Street, a woman was walking down the sidewalk when she was approached by the two men, who had their shirts pulled up to their nose. They yelled at her to give them money, and when she walked away, they threw a glass cylinder at her. The object did not hit her.

The two men also stopped two juvenile boys in the 1300 block of East Lake Bluff to ask them for money. All three suspects stayed in the vehicle, and when the boys said they didn't have money, they drove away. The boys said the two men had bandanas or shirts covering their faces.

In the 4300 block of Morris, the three suspects demanded money of a man walking down the sidewalk. The man refused to give them money, and the car continued driving southbound on Morris. One of the men wore a black bandana, while the other man wore a white bandana, he said.
