Payroll Employee Accused of Bilking $1.1M from Wheaton Franciscan

A 49-year-old woman was arrested Thursday in connection with a sophisticated payroll scheme, stealing more than $1 million from the hospital.

A Wheaton Franciscan employee is accused of bilking the hospital out of $1.1 million in an elaborate, sophisticated payroll scheme, the Milwaukee Business Journal reports.

The employee manipulated the accounts of 848 employees for financial gain, the hospital says. The 49-year-old woman admitted to the theft and was arrested Thursday by Glendale police, FOX6 reports.

Wheaton Franciscan, based in Glendale, said its investigation found a complex process was used to add false hours, mostly through paid time off hours, to random employees' accounts and make an immediate payout into the woman's personal bank account, the Journal reports.
