One Smash-and-Grab, Four Unlocked Cars Illegally Entered Late Last Week

Police say there was nearly $500 worth of property stolen in thefts from unlocked cars.

Five car break-ins were reported in Shorewood dating back to Thursday β€” and more than $500 in property stolen. Another auto break-in from a couple weeks ago, was also reported to police last week.

Thursday, two unlocked cars were broken into sometime between 8 and 10 p.m. and rummaged through, but nothing was taken. The cars were parked in an alleyway in the 3500 block of North Murray Avenue.

Later that night, an unlocked car was illegally entered while parked in an open garage in the 1800 block of East Wood Place. A GPS unit, mp3 player, police scanner, some prescription pills and several hundred dollars in cash were stolen. Police are still gathering the value of the stolen items.

On Sunday, the window was smashed out of a Toyota and a $150 Garmin GPS unit stolen. Another Toyota parked in the same driveway in the 3500 block of North Cramer Street was unlocked and rummaged through, but nothing was reportedly taken.

A Shorewood resident called police Thursday to report that Oct. 18, his unlocked 2001 Mitsubishi Gallant was illegally entered while parked in the parking lot at 4145 N. Oakland Ave. A $94 GPS unit and check written to Shorewest Realty was taken.
