NSFD Report: One-Car Crash, Restaurant Forced to Close after Incident, False Alarms

The latest reports from the North Shore Fire Department.

The responded to a total of 113 calls for service, including 86 EMS calls, and 27 fire and rescue calls, from Nov. 21 to Nov. 27 throughout the North Shore.

Here is a summary of the calls from Shorewood, Whitefish Bay, Fox Point and Bayside.

Shorewood

  • A resident spilling water on a hot stove caused a fire alarm to sound in a apartment complex in the 1600 block of East River Park Court at 6:50 p.m. on Nov. 24. The resident attempted to silence the alarm but ended up putting it into trouble mode. Firefighters had to deactivate the alarm.
  • Firefighters nor police were able to locate the individual who called 911 and reported smoke on the 8th floor of an apartment building in the 1700 block of East River Park Place Nov. 26. The called was placed at 6:58 p.m. reporting the smoke but when firefighters arrived, there were no signs of smoke or fire. Officials interviewed several residents, all of which denied phoning 911.

Whitefish Bay

  • A worried wife in the 6300 block of North Lake Drive called the fire department at 2:36 p.m. on Nov. 21 over concern for her husband who had a severe headache. She told the dispatcher they had carbon monoxide detectors in the home but they weren’t activated. Firefighters tested the home for a leak, but found nothing.
  • NSFD responded to a carbon monoxide alarm Nov. 24 at 5:52 a.m. after it sounded and woke up the residents of a home in the 4200 block of North Kimbark Place. The alarm was determined to be a false alarm after firefighters arrived.
  • Fire officials told a homeowner in the 6500 block of North Shoreland Avenue Nov. 27 to repair or replace the stove in the home after the residents say their carbon monoxide detector went off and tests revealed high levels in the home. No injuries or illness were reported.

Fox Point

  • NSFD responded to a false fire alarm Nov. 25 in the 3200 block of North Port Washington Road at approximately 5 p.m. A resident using a food warmer too close to a fire alarm sparked the alarm.

Bayside

  • As police and firefighters were investigating a burglar alarm at a home in the 300 block of West Brown Deer Road on Nov. 23 at 6:23 a.m., they noticed smoke coming from a restaurant behind the house. Firefighters forcibly , which was producing the smoke. The rest of the building was cleared. Officials informed the owner he wouldn’t be able to open his business and the health department would be notified about the incident.
  • NSFD responded to a carbon monoxide alarm at 4:25 p.m. on Nov. 22 sounding in a home in the 9100 block of North Briarwood Court. Once units arrived, it was determined to be a false alarm and the homeowner was instructed to change the detector’s battery.
  • A one-car crash occurred Nov. 22 at 6:58 p.m. on I-43 and a mother and daughter were treated for minor injuries. Circumstances surrounding the cause of the crash are unclear.
  • An apartment building in the 9000 block of North White Oak Lane was evacuated Nov. 26 around 11:16 p.m. after a fire alarm was activated. It was later determined to be from smoke from burnt food.
