NSFD Extinguishes 2 Fires Overnight on Monday
No injuries reported in a garage fire caused by a sparking telephone pole transformer and basement fire caused by a bad reaction between chemicals.
The North Shore Fire Department was busy in Shorewood overnight extinguishing two structure fires.
No one was injured when a malfunctioning transformer on a telephone pole started sparking and set a detached garage on fire at 4317 N. Woodburn St. around 9 Monday night.
Battalion Chief Steve Brennan said We Energies personnel were on the scene fixing the transformer and the fire caused about $20,000 in damage to the garage.

At 5:17 a.m. on Tuesday, a chemical reaction caused a fire to break out in the basement of a duplex at 4205 N. Wildwood Ave.
The fire was quickly brought under control and extinguished, according to a fire department statement.

Brennan said the smoke detector went off at the home and the residents were able to get out and no one was injured.
The fire was contained to an area under the basement stairs of the home and the damage estimate at this time is approximately $5,000, according to fire officials.
