A 38-year-old Milwaukee woman has been charged with her third drunken driving offense after Shorewood police arrested her for driving under the influence earlier this month. Β

Michelle Wara was charged June 11 in Milwaukee County Circuit Court with one count of operating while intoxicated third offense. If convicted, she could face up to one year in county jail, $2,000 in fines, or both. The charge does carry a minimum penalty of 45 days in county jail and a $600 fine.

On June 7 at 1:40 a.m., police say they pulled Wara over in the 3800 block of North Oakland Avenue for violating a no right turn on red traffic sign.

An officer said Wara smelled of alcohol and slurred her words when she spoke, according to a criminal complaint. She failed on-scene sobriety tests, and was transported to a local hospital for a blood test to determine her blood alcohol content, the court documents say. Those results are not yet available.

Wara is due in court July 15 for an initial appearance.Β
