Man Lied about Fleeing Traffic Stop to Get Daughter to Hospital: Police

Police say a Glendale man called them the day after he fled a traffic stop to apologize and say he sped off because he had to get his daughter to the hospital.

The day after he sped off during a traffic stop, a Glendale man called police to apologize saying he had to get his daughter to the hospital, and later lying about her death, court documents say.

Isaac Patterson, 36, was charged May 31 in Milwaukee County Circuit Court with one felony count of fleeing or eluding police. If convicted, he could face up to three years and six months imprisonment, $10,000 in fines, or both.

According to the criminal complaint:

On May 20 at about 7:45 a.m., Shorewood police pulled over Patterson in the 4200 block of Estabrook Parkway for speeding, the complaint says.

Police made contact, and Patterson provided an identification card saying he was speeding because he was late to drop off his two children at school.

Patterson then sped off, reaching speeds of 80 MPH, running red lights and weaving in and out of traffic, the criminal complaint says.

A Shorewood police officer called Patterson the same day, using information from his ID card; Patterson returned the call the following day and left a voicemail. Patterson apologized for fleeing and said he sped off because he had to get his daughter to the hospital.

The following day, Patterson called police again, leaving a message saying his daughter had died in the hospital.

Police tracked down Patterson on May 28 and took him into custody. During questioning, he told Shorewood detectives he lied about his daughter dying, admitted to speeding to get his children to school on time, and fleeing the scene of the traffic stop.

Patterson’s preliminary court hearing is scheduled for June 13. He is currently out-of-custody on a signature bond.
