Man Charged in $200 Meat and Detergent Theft
Milwaukee man tries to steal items from the Shorewood Pick 'n Save, but is caught walking down North Oakland Avenue with a shopping cart of stolen goods.
A 54-year-old Milwaukee man is facing charges after he was caught trying to steal $200 in meat and laundry detergent from a Shorewood grocery store.
William Douglas Stokes was charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court Saturday with one count of retail theft. If convicted, he faces up to nine months in prison and $10,000 in fines.

On Friday, a cashier at spotted Stokes walk into the store, then grab a shopping cart and disappear into the store for five minutes before coming back with numerous packages of meat, seafood and laundry detergent. He then walked out the store without paying for the cart full of goods, so store employees called police.
Stokes was found by officers pushing the cart south on North Oakland Avenue, almost two blocks from the store. The total value of the goods in the cart was estimated at $204.

He’s currently being held in Milwaukee County Jail on $200 bail.
