Man Caught with Cocaine Following Shoplifting Incident

Police find suspect with drugs in his sock after arresting him for stealing steak and lobster tails from Pick 'n Save.

A 44-year-old Milwaukee man is facing charges after he was caught allegedly carrying cocaine in his sock while stealing steak and lobster from a Shorewood grocery store.

Jeffrey Sommers was charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court Thursday with one count of possession of cocaine. If convicted, he faces up to 3 ½ years in prison and $10,000 in fines.

On Monday, Shorewood police officers were called to , 4145 N. Oakland Ave., on a report of someone shoplifting from the store. When they arrived, Sommers had already left in a convertible.

A police officer travelling eastbound on East Capitol Drive spotted the convertible travelling westbound, so he turned around and pulled the vehicle over in the 700 block. Sommers was in the passenger seat with steak and lobster tails from the store and said he threw the receipt away for the items.

He then told officers “I did it, he didn’t have anything to do with it,” referring to the driver. He was then placed under arrest.

Officers took him to the where they discovered cocaine wrapped in a piece of paper inside his left sock.

He has been ordered to the JUSTICE 2000 program for monitoring while awaiting trial.
