Man Beaten, Accused of Rape in Elaborate Revenge Plot

Police say Illinois woman recruited friends to come to Shorewood and take part in attack.

No charges will be filed in connection with a bizarre case in which police say a 19-year-old Illinois woman falsely accused a 33-year-old Milwaukee man of rape, and then recruited five ofΒ  her friends to beat him up with a baseball bat and pipe wrench.

According to Shorewood police:

The friendship between the woman and the victim had gone sour, and she wanted revenge against the man for an unknown reason.

The man drove to Schaumburg, where the woman lived, on Jan. 30 to pick her up and bring her back to a business he owns in Shorewood. What he didn't know was that five other people - three teenagers and a man and a woman in their 20s, all from Illinois - were driving close behind. They also brought a 5-month-old boy along for the ride.

Around 2 a.m. on Jan. 31, after the Milwaukee man and Illinois woman had sex, she accused him of rape and called in her small army of friends. They beat the man badly enough that he was taken to a local hospital with injuries, including a large cut to his forehead.

As the group was running across North Oakland Avenue with the baseball bat and pipe wrench, they were noticed by a Shorewood police officer who was patrolling the area. They got into their car and started driving when the officer pulled them over for questioning. Soon afterward, the victim came running out to the street, bloodied from the assault. All were taken into custody.

Shorewood police recommended that battery, burglary and robbery charges be filed against the six Illinois suspects, and that the Milwaukee man be charged with sexual assault.

However, the district attorney's office declined to issue charges. A representative from the office said the case was filed as "no process," which means charges could not be proved.

The infant who was in the car with the five suspects was turned over the the Bureau of Milwaukee Child Welfare.
