The Shorewood School District has been notified of an accounting discrepancy in the Band Parents Booster Club, according to a statement from the district.

The statement noted that a police investigation has begun, though Shorewood Police said Wednesday they have been contacted but an investigation has not started.

An individual in a leadership role has accepted responsibility for the irregularity within the club's accounts, according to a statement from the school district. The size of the error is unclear and the individual responsible has not been identified.

A club representative did not return a message seeking comment Wednesday.

The booster club is a separate entity from the district, but school officials said they will support the organization during the investigation. The club has supported band programs in Shorewood for many years, the district said.

"We look forward to continuing our long partnership with the Band Parents Booster Club and will lend whatever assistance we can to their organization," the district said in a prepared statement.
