Crime Time: Vehicle Break-Ins, Stolen Political Signs

A roundup of the latest from the Shorewood police reports.

Two car owners fell victim to break-ins early this week.

Monday, an unlocked Toyota Rav 4 was illegally entered while parked in the 1500 block of East Capitol Drive. The vehicle owner told police the glove box was rifled through but nothing was stolen, however there was about $100 in damage to the ignition.

Tuesday, a locked Toyota Camry had the front passenger-side window broken out and a $60 Tom Tom GPS stolen. The vehicle was parked in the 1300 block of East Capitol Drive and the damage totaled $200.

Also in the police reports:

  • Police say one resident called after a political sign supporting state Sen. Alberta Darling was taken from his front yard in the 2200 block of East Newton Avenue. The resident told police other residents on the block have had signs stolen as well.
  • A 39-year-old Milwaukee woman was arrested Wednesday for retail theft after police say she attempted to walk out of , 4145 N. Oakland Ave., without paying for two bottles of scotch. The bottles are valued at approximately $70.
  • The owner of a Mitsubishi Gallant reported the front side passenger tire slashed while it was parked in the underground parking garage for an apartment in the 1300 block of East Capitol Drive.
