Crime Time: Kids Try to Create Another Snow Day, Retail Theft

A roundup of the latest from the Shorewood police reports.

Most children love snow days, but apparently some more than others.

Janitors working overnight at , 1701 E. Capitol Dr., called police Thursday after observing 10 to 12 children take it into their own hands to cancel school for another day by shoveling and piling snow in front of entrances to the school at 1:30 a.m.

When police arrived, they found 6 feet of snow in front of four doors. The juveniles were unable to be located.

It had been announced the night before classes would resume Thursday after the district closed Wednesday due to weather conditions.

  • An unknown person was caught on surveillance cameras stealing a $725 Sony laptop computer at , 4009 N. Oakland Ave. The district manager called police after noticing it was missing, and police are still investigating and trying to track down the suspect on camera.
  • One clerk at , 2521 E. Capitol Dr., reported a gas driveoff, Wednesday, after a man in his mid- to late 20s, filled up a gray Chevolet S-10 pickup truck with $42 in gas but drove off without paying for it. Police were unable to locate the owner of the vehicle.
