Crime Time: Hit and Run, Drug Offense and Scam Letter

A roundup of the latest from the Shorewood police reports.

Shorewood police arrested a 31-year-old Shorewood man for operating while intoxicated, hit and run, and failure to notice police of an accident after he allegedly hit a light pole in the 4200 block of North Stowell Avenue with his 2010 Honda.

Witnesses told police they saw the driver hit the pole then flee in the vehicle. The man was taken into custody after police found him at his home. Police say he was drunk and admitted to crashing his car.

  • Possession of marijuana charges are pending for a 30-year-old Milwaukee man after Shorewood police pulled over his 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser for suspended registration and found marijuana thoughout the vehicle as well as $6,180 in cash. Two other people were in the vehicle, including a 22-year-old Milwaukee woman who was taken into custody by Shorewood police for a unrelated warrant and a 28-year-old Milwaukee man who was released with no charges. The 30-year-old man is currently being held by the Department of Corrections for violating probation.
  • Police checked on an 18-year-old University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee student after he was found lying in an alleyway in the 2400 block of East Stratford Court, Thursday. He admitted to police he had been drinking and was issued a ticket for underage drinking.
  • Police received several soliciting complaints Sunday because of individuals canvassing Shorewood for signatures to petition the recall of state Sen. Alberta Darling.
  • A Shorewood man came to police Feb. 28 after receiving a scam letter at his home that said he had inherited $22 million and to contact the sender to collect the money. The man took no action and police trashed the letter.
  • A 30GB iPod Touch music player was reported stolen Thursday from a locker inside the boy’s locker room at Shorewood High School.
