Crime Time: Charges Expected Against Local Man for String of Retail Thefts, Teenagers Trespass

A roundup of the latest from the Shorewood police reports.

The Milwaukee County District Attorney’s office is reviewing at least 5 cases of retail theft allegedly committed by a 20-year-old Milwaukee man at , 4145 N. Oakland Ave., and , 4081 N. Oakland Ave. On Friday, he was arrested for retail theft after he allegedly attempted to leave Pick ‘n Save with three bottles of alcohol. Security at the grocer was compiling footage of the man for police, when they noticed him on live cameras and stopped him before he could leave the store. He is currently in police custody.

Also in the police reports:

  • An Appleton couple was surprised when they walked into their Shorewood apartment Sunday, to find another man living there. When the couple moved into the apartment in the 2100 block of East Capitol Drive they paid their rent up to the end of April, when their lease ends, but decided to move to Appleton months ago and couldn’t get out of their lease. When they came back to the Milwaukee area to visit friends, they decided to stay in the apartment. The man had to cover up with a towel the couple told police. It’s unclear what caused the mix-up by owner Katz Properties.
  • Three Shorewood teenagers were detained Friday for trespassing and graffiti after a resident in the 3900 block of North Lake Drive saw the group allegedly walking on privately-owned beaches using a can of spray paint to graffiti beach rocks, dead fish and retaining walls.
  • An 18-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested Friday for retail theft after allegedly walking out of Pick ‘n Save without paying for a $25 bottle of Absolute vodka.
  • Police arrested a Shorewood man Sunday for retail theft after police say they saw the man stuffing candy bars down the back of his coat in Walgreens. Police received calls about an obstructing North Oakland Avenue traffic and were directed to Walgreens when they arrived on scene. The man had been warned previously after he found trying to sell 40-50 candy bars at Citgo, 1602 E Capitol Dr.
  • Police say white spray paint graffiti on the little league message board at Spectator Park caused around $20 in damage, Saturday.
