Crime Time: Burglars Make Off with Thousands in Jewlery

A roundup of the latest from the Shorewood police reports.

A flat-screen television set valued at $950, two gold bracelets and other jewelry valued at between $3,500 and $3,700, and family photos were reported stolen Dec. 7 from a home in the  2300 block of East Newton Avenue.

The home was entered through the front door by breaking a window and disengaging the deadbolt.

Less than a week later, Dec. 13, a home on the 1200 block of East Olive Street reported more than $3,000 in stolen property. Entry was gained to the home through a side door and a 44-inch television valued at $800, camera valued at $1,300 and jewlery valued at $1,000 were taken.

Also from the police reports:

  • A vehicle was found illegally parked on the 4300 block of Sheffield Avenue, Dec. 14, with minor damage and the passenger-side airbag deployed. The owner told police he had driven home from the American Legion Post, 4121 N. Wilson Dr., and struck the curb on North Wilson Drive between North Wildwood Avenue and North Marlbrorough Drive. The man didn't call police after the incident, was cited for the violating Winter parking restrictions and told police he had a couple beers that night before driving home.
  • A relative of the owners of a home on the 4500 block of Marlborough Drive reported an attempted forced entry on Dec. 12. The owners were out of town and had a relative housesitting for them. The relative called police after he found damage to the side entrance and back window.
  • The owner of the Oakcrest Tavern, 4022 N. Oakland Ave., called police on Dec. 9 after he found damage done to an ice sculpture valued at $175. The sculpture was one of several that were on display  as part of the Shorewood Shopwalk event the previous weekend.
  • A license plate was reported stolen Dec. 12 off a 2000 Cadillac Seville while it was parked in the Pick N' Save parking lot at 4145 N. Oakland Ave.
