Crime Time: Burglars Get Away on Stolen Bicycles, Teenager Assaulted, OWI

A roundup of the latest from the Shorewood police reports.

Lake Drive residents became suspicious and phoned police Sunday after they saw two men using a door opener to gain access to a garage in the 3900 block.

Witnesses told police the men entered the garage and shortly after took off on stolen mountain bikes. A $400 Giant Revel mountain bicycle and $250 green Pacific mountain bicycle were taken, according to police. The garage door opener was taken from an unlocked vehicle parked outside the garage.

  • A Shorewood woman phoned police Saturday after she says she was assaulted by a teenager who was a guest at her home. The victim told police she confronted a 16-year-old boy about taking $4 from her purse while she was in another room of her home. The boy then grabbed her left arm and she broke his necklace, trying to get away. The suspect placed his hand on her chest and neck forcing her to the wall. Police say they are still trying to track down the boy, however the victim said she doesn't intend to press charges. Police say the woman didn’t sustain serious injury but did have red marks around her neck.  
  • A 21-year-old Sussex man was arrested Saturday for operating while intoxicated. Shorewood police pulled him over around 3:15 a.m. for driving without headlights and say he had bloodshot eyes and smelled of alcohol. He failed a sobriety test with a .15 blood alcohol content.
  • A Shorewood woman called police after she says a mail delivery from Walmart for 90 Clonazepam prescription pills was signed for by someone else. The pills were worth $38.
  • A lawnmower was reported stolen June 30 from an open garage in the 3900 block of North Maryland Avenue. Police are unaware of the value of lawnmower.
  • Shorewood police responded to nine reports of illegal use of fireworks over the Independence Day weekend.
  • A $500 brown men’s Gant bicycle was reported stolen Sunday from a garage in the 4000 block of North Downer Avenue. Police say entry was gained through an unlocked side door.
  • Police are looking for two juveniles who reportedly removed $80 tires from a locked bicycle at the intersection of East Kensington Boulevard and North Lake Drive.
  • About $1,000 in damage to a washing machine coin mechanism and theft of a $100 Next Power X mountain bicycle were reported at a apartment in the 3500 block of North Oakland Avenue.
  • A $30 wallet and $60 cell phone were reported stolen from , 1701 E. Capitol Dr., Wednesday.

 

The above items are from reports from local police departments. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
